Code of Research Ethics

The purpose of this code of ethics is to establish the research ethics related to journal submission to the Korean Society of Sport Biomechanics and compliance thereof by the submitters.

Chapter 1: Code of research ethics

Article 1. Code of ethics for researchers

1. For studies on human subjects, the general rule shall be to provide the subjects with sufficient explanation on the objective(s) of the study, as well as the mental and physical dangers that may occur while participating in the study, and obtain their consent pertaining to such matters.
2. For studies on experimental animals, the general rule shall be to make all necessary efforts to minimize the discomfort and suffering of these animals.
3. The researcher shall adhere to the basic principles of honesty, truthfulness, and accuracy in all research activities and refrain from any misconduct, including fabrication, falsification, and plagiarism.

Article 2. Scope of research misconduct

Research misconduct refers to the practices of fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, and/or improper assignment of authorship that can occur during the course of submitting the research proposal, conducting the research, and reporting and publishing the results, as defined below:
1. Fabrication: The practice of falsely creating data or research results that do not exist.
2. Falsification: The practice of distorting research content or results by artificially manipulating research materials, equipment, and processes or by arbitrarily modifying or omitting data.
3. Plagiarism: The practice of taking credit for someone else’s idea(s), research content, and results without proper authorization or citation.
4. Improper assignment of authorship: The practice of not granting authorship to someone who contributed to the research content and/or results without any justifiable reason or granting authorship as a gesture of gratitude or courtesy to someone who did not make any contributions to the research.
5. Multiple publication and redundant publication: Multiple publication refers to the practice of publishing articles with the same content in two or more journals, where 50% or more of the same materials (or subjects) or the same methodology is used. Redundant publication refers to the practice of republishing an article that has already been published in another journal as an original article.
Multiple publication and redundant publication must be distinguished from secondary publication.

<Note>

Secondary publication refers to the practice of publishing an article with the same content in two or more journals, having met the following conditions. This practice is not generally considered research misconduct.
1) The editor(s) of the primary journal must consent, and the editor(s) of the secondary journal must have viewed the article in the primary journal.
2) The secondary publication must acknowledge the fact that it is a secondary publication, and the primary publication must be clearly stated.
3) The content and conclusions must be the same in both the publications, and the secondary publication should normally be a condensed version.
4) The readership of the two journals must be different, and the secondary publication must occur at least one week after the first publication.
5) The author(s) of the two articles must be the same.

Chapter 2: Regulations on the implementation of research ethics
